State Swim Meet

December 17 and 18, 2011 are the dates for the State swim meet, which will be at the Ohio State University. Once the athletes participating are registered, we will be sending out more information!

Come partake in the inaugural General Sherman Pump and Run in Pickerington! This years race hopes to bring in 300 participants. All proceeds from the event will benefit Ohio Special Olympics. The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competitions for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Challenge yourself in the name of a good cause!

There is also a FREE 1k run/walk at 12:45pm (chip timing and t-shirts are not available for this event)

Race Day Packet Pickup and Registration

The Pump and Run will take part in two locations, Power Shack and Columbus Running Company's Pickerington Location (1250 Hill Rd N., Pickerington, OH 43147). The Pump and Run begins at 9am and runs until Noon. The 5k begins at 1pm from the CRC. Transportation will not be provided between the two locations.

Race day registration and packet pickup for the Pump and Run portion begins at 8am at the Power Shack. For those just pariticipating in the 5k, registration and pickup begins at CRC Pickerington at 11am. The race will leave from in front of the store at 1pm.

Pump and Run Rules

FIVE MEN LIFTING DIVISIONS

Men 39 and under contestants will bench press 100% of their weight... Men 40 - 49 will bench press 90% of their weight... Men 50 - 59 will bench press 80% of their weight... Men 60 - 69 will bench press 70% of their weight... Men 70 and over will bench press 60% of their weight.

FIVE WOMEN LIFTING DIVISIONS

Women 39 and under contestants will bench press 70% of their weight... Women 40 - 49 will bench press 60% of their weight... Women 50 - 59 will bench press 50% of their weight... Women 60 - 69 will bench press 40% of their weight... Women 70 and over will bench press 40% of their weight.. Minimum lift 45 pounds.

In the General Sherman Pump and Run, a runner's time will be based on how many times he/she can bench press their weight*. An athlete will reduce their run time by 30 seconds for each successful lift (maximum 30 reps) which will allow a runner to reduce their run time by 15 minutes based on 30 reps (maximum allowed). If they bench press their weight* 10 times - 5 minutes will be taken off their run time.

Area and State Bowling Tournmanent

We wanted to let you know of the dates for the upcoming Bowling Tournaments:

-The Area 6 tournament will be held Saturday, September 17th at High Performance Lanes, 2012 Innis Road.

-The State tournament will be held on Sunday October 23rd at either Holiday Lanes or Sawmill Lanes in Columbus.

Your athlete MUST participate in the first tournament on September 17th in order to bowl at States. Please let us know ASAP if your athlete will be participating in both tournaments so that we can organize teams accordingly. Please remember that if your athlete is on a team and cannot show up at the state tournament this will disqualify the ENTIRE team.

If your athlete is not able to participate in the tournaments, they are still more than welcome to come to bowling each Thursday at Rule 3!

Road Closure during Summer Games

Shauna just sent us this information that the Lane Avenue Bridge will be closed during Summer games:

The Lane Ave. Bridge will be closed on June 24, 25, and 26. Work will begin on Friday, the 24 during the day with some partial lane closures but maintained traffic. Hard Close at 7:00pm on Friday, the 24th. Hard closure will continue on Saturday and Sunday. At the very latest the bridge will open at 5:00am on Monday the 27th. They anticipate being done by sundown on Sunday, however. If weather is bad, the make-up dates are July 9,10, and 11.

 

This will take place during Special Olympics Weekend,

Summer Games Update

If your athlete is going to Summer Games they should ahve received information a practice, if for some reason they have missed practice this week the information has been mailed to your home. Please read carefully and return the required forms to Joyce or Jill.

Car wash Update

A Big Thanks to all of the parents, athletes and volunteers who helped make the car wash a HUGE success! We raised $730 from the car wash, this will greatly help with the cost of sending 30 athletes and 5 coaches to Summer Games! Thanks again to all who supported us!

Car Wash!!!

Sunday, June 5 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM at Sears Hardware (next to Kroger at the corner of SR 256 and Refugee Rd.)

All helpers please bring buckets, soap, and sponge. Sears will provide the hoses and water.

There will be a minimum donation of 5.00 dollars for each car washed. Looking forward to seeing all that can participate!!!

T-Shirts for Summer Games

-The shirt for special olympics summer games is here!  We are asking that everyone pay $7.50 for their Athletes shirt and we will cover the rest of the cost.  The shirts are form of a dri-fit shirt.

-There are two color options for shirts: White shirts are $15 dollars, which is the color we are getting for the Athletes.
Purple (an option for parents or if you would like to purchase your athlete a second shirt) shirts are $18 dollars.

-If any Parent would like to get a shirt for themselves or an addition shirt for thier athlete please email us with what color and size you would like no later then next Tuesday.  You can give the money to Joyce or Jill and Please make checks payable to Special Olympics Pickerington.  I hope Everyone loves the shirts. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Joyce or Jill.

Please arrive by 8:30AM for check in. If you are running late, please let Jill or Joyce know. If the athletes are not there by the end of registration, we will have to scratch them from the events.

VOLLEYBALL: Please wear purple shirts and bring a shirt to change in to as well will need the shirts back to get numbers placed on them for summer games. Wear black shorts or sweat pants.

TRACK: Please wear a purple shirt and black shorts. Bring your track jersey with you to wear.


Lunch will be provided for the athletes. Please bring water for them during the day and a snack if needed, Again, this is a long day and events may last as late as 4:00PM.
